Billions and Billions

The Very Large Array (VLA) is a radio astronomy observatory located on the Plains of San Agustin between the towns of Magdalena and Datil, New Mexico. There are 27 antennas, each has a diameter of 82 feet. During the day, you can go on a self-guided walking tour, visit the gift shop and visitor center. I spent two nights imaging at the VLA. I stayed in Magdalena, that made about a half hour drive each way. There is a lot of wildlife moving around at night. Watch the road very closely and go slow. I came over a hill and two huge deer where standing in the middle of the road. This was another unworldly moment when you feel like you have the earth and sky all to yourself. Beside the Milky Way in the upper right you see the Andromeda Galaxy.
