Lunar halo

Lunar halo

A lunar halo is usually more noticeable then a solar halo since you can look at the moon without hurting your eyes. These are also formed by ice crystals from high cirrus clouds about 20,000 feet up. One of the most interesting things about halos is the ice crystals have to be positioned just right for your eye to see them. The person standing next to you will see a halo formed by the ice crystals positioned just right for their eye to see them. It is the same with solar or lunar halos. So the halo you see is one made just for you!
